Advanced Google Search for Mindjet® MindManager®
Google Search Plus for MindManager enables you to search Google and return search results directly into your active Map. There are also several user configurable options allowing you to tailor searches retrieve the results you are looking for.
The existing Smart Map Part that enabled MindManager to do this ceased to work earlier this year and Mindjet stated that a fix would not be included in the next version, MindManager 2017. They also said no service packs would be released to rectify the issue in previous versions. In light of the fact that many use MindManager as an investigative and research tool, we decided to develop a replacement capability and also add some small improvements. Google Search Plus is the result of that work.
With Google Search Plus and MindManager you can:
- Utilize existing Google search syntax
- Select the number of search results to return (1-10)
- Restrict search periods to filter out older results
- Add search “snippets” and hyperlinks to the original page to Topic Text Notes
- Opt to have search results returned as a Topic for each result or a collection of Hyperlinks on one Map Topic
- Add a Text Label Map Marker containing the date the search results were returned to help find historic results from a given day
- See your Google Search API Quota balance before each search

How Google Search Plus works
Google Search Plus requires a Google API Key and a Google Custom Search Engine Identifier BEFORE it can be used, but don’t worry, these are easy to create and we have guides and videos to help you through the process. See Setting Up Google Search Plus below for details.
Once you have installed Google Search Plus, you initiate a search by creating/selecting a Map Topic with the term you wish to search for and right-clicking the Topic to open the Topic Context menu as shown. You then start the search by left-clicking the Google Search Plus command located on the menu.
This will display the Google Search Plus for MindManager dialog where you can tailor your search options. For full details of each of these, download our Google Search Plus for MindManager Map from the right of this page. It provides all the information you need. This is also available within the add-in once installed.
Once you run the search the results are added to the Map ready to review.
Setting Up Google Search Plus
As mentioned earlier you require two credentials in order to be able to access the Google Search API. First, you will require a Google Search API Key. Your API key is restricted to 100 searches per/day and Google Search Plus shows you the used quota each time you initiate a search so you know when you are approaching that all important limit.
Second, you will require a Google Custom Search Engine Identifier. This is a reference to your own Google Search Engine which is used in conjunction with your API key.
We have produced two videos below that detail how to get these two credentials and there is also a PDF guide you can download from the right of this page showing the process in a series of step by step screenshots.
